Starting from the academic year 2023/2024, Óbuda University will shift its focus to specialized language training to ensure that our students are capable of excelling in their professions in an international environment. We will provide this specialized language proficiency based on an internal requirement system, with specialized language courses and courses taught in foreign languages. The measurement of students’ specialized language proficiency will be done through an internal specialized language aptitude test.
The mentioned specialized language aptitude test is a criterion requirement for all full-time students in bachelor’s programs, but there are several ways to exempt it:
1. Language proficiency exam:
Students who have already obtained a complex or advanced level state-recognized language proficiency exam in a foreign language and have it registered in Neptun (meaning the student has submitted the language proficiency certificate to the Study Office) will be exempt from the aptitude test, and their specialized language criterion will be automatically fulfilled.
2. Credit or professional practice acquired through mobility programs:
Credits or semesters earned abroad at foreign higher education institutions through courses taught in a foreign language and completed assessments in a foreign language will be automatically accepted as specialized language competencies.
3. Credits earned at foreign universities:
Credits earned through studies conducted in foreign languages at foreign higher education institutions will also exempt students from the aptitude test, provided that a certain amount of credits is reached.
4. Foreign professional practice:
A regular professional practice lasting a minimum of 4 weeks, conducted in a foreign country and involving regular professional communication in a foreign language, will also exempt students from the aptitude test.
5. Submitting a thesis in a foreign language for the Student Research Conference (TDK):
If a university student writes their thesis in a foreign language and presents it at the institutional Student Research Conference in a foreign language, they will be exempt from the aptitude test.
6. Participation in international competitions:
University students participating in international academic or professional competitions, communicating in writing and/or orally in a foreign language, will be exempt from the aptitude test.
7. Scientific research work, publication of a scientific article:
If a university student, under the guidance of their supervisor, writes and publishes an article in a foreign language for a Hungarian domestic conference or a domestic or foreign international conference, and personally presents their scientific publication in a foreign language at the conference, they will be exempt from the aptitude test.
8. Holding a position in an international student organization:
Any position held in an international student organization that requires regular communication in a foreign language within and outside the organization will exempt students from the aptitude test.
